Backyard Ultra
Rules
Below you will find the key rules of the Backyard Ultra format.
6.706 km Loop
Every runner must complete a loop of 6.706 km (4.167 miles) within one hour.
Start Every Full Hour
Keep Going
Runners must continue completing loops as long as they can return to the start line within 60 minutes.
No Accumulated Rest
Any remaining time before the next bell is the runner’s rest time — there is no extra pause.
Stay on the Course
Runners may not leave the course until they finish the loop, except for emergency restroom breaks.
No Personal Aid During the Loop
Support, pacing, or assistance is only allowed between loops at the race base — never during a loop.
No Poles or Artificial Aids
Trekking poles and similar aids are not permitted.
Faster Runners Have Priority
Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass safely.
Mandatory Headlamp at Night
A headlamp is required between 21:00 and 06:00 for safety.
No Littering
Any runner caught littering will be disqualified (DNF).
Last One Standing
No Second Place
